The best version of this film there will ever be!

Thank you for finally making this available in the States! For the longest time, I held a hatred for King Kong vs. Godzilla mainly because I was stuck with the horribly edited Universal Pictures release of the film. After viewing the original Japanese cut of the movie, I can safely say it is now a favorite of mine. The tone is consistent and not bogged down by shoe-horned "news reports", the music is back to the traditional Akira Ifukube Godzilla score that we've all come to know and love, and the dialogue in this movie is much better than the dialogue in the English translation. As for the DVD itself, I commend Sumogorilla for putting out a fantastic release. The film itself is taken right from the 2001 Toho DVD. This DVD does lack a menu, which means that after the film and the trailers finish, the DVD just ends. The lack of a menu is not enough to detract from the copy overall though. My DVD arrived in a timely manner. I highly recommend that anyone who wants to purchase the Japanese versions of their favorite monster movies look into buying from Sumogorilla.

I love seeing the differences between Japanese and their "Americanized" versions. Sometimes the American versions are so chopped up that you lose track of the plot. But I have both so my collection will soon be complete

Finally! A Quality Copy of 'King Kong vs. Godzilla'!

Posted by Chris Thomas on 31st Jan 2017

For many years, I strived to see the original Japanese version of King Kong versus Godzilla. I have tried VHS tapes and DVDs only to end up with terrible blurry pseudo-images. I had almost given up finding a high-quality Region 1 DVD of this, the most successful Godzilla movie ever. For those who don't know, the US version of KK vs G was severely slashed & re-edited with really stupid US-shot scenes added for who knows what reason. Akira Ifukube's magnificent soundtrack was removed & replaced with reused tracks from 'Creature From the Black Lagoon' and other library music. SumoGorilla has come through where all others have failed! A Region 1, English subtitled DVD that is clear (not 1080) and a pleasure to watch! The Japanese/ English translation is very accurate for subtitling. The movie was made as a satirical comedy with kaiju. The humor and irony of the dialogue is all there in subtitle! Translating humor from one culture to another is very difficult, but this disc nails it perfectly. There is even bonus material! This is a long review. But this DVD ended a 30 year search to see 'King Kong vs. Godzilla'! I love it. SumoGorilla delivered a great product for only $12.95, with free shipping. I got my order in a week, and they kept in constant contact updating the status of my order at every step. They did everything right, and that's deeply appreciated. They will definitely be the first place I go for hard-to-find movies!

    High Quality

This allowed me to finally watch the Japanese cut. Indeed, it's 1000x better than the U.S. cut. Don't know if the subtitles are accurate, but they were grammatically correct and allowed me to imagine a world where the U.S. release was better. It's quality is also up to standard with a bigger-budget, more expensive DVD found anywhere else.

The ONLY way to see this movie!

One of the better entries in the series, it deserves to be seen in its original, Japanese cut, and not the mutilated American edit. Picture quality is excellent, and great cover art! Well worth the price, which can't be beat!
