  1. Impressed 5 Star Review

Posted by on 29th Mar 2015

I had the Japanese language version on vhs. The visual quality was not the best. However, when I started watching this dvd, I was very impressed. The audio/picture quality is much better than the vhs copy that I had. Also, the collection of trailers following the film was awe-inspiring. Very good job by sumogorilla.

  2. Great film, and second "All Region" DVD I ever bought. 4 Star Review

Posted by on 17th Feb 2015

I really enjoyed the film. The picture quality was satisfying, and the DVD played well on my American DVD player ( I knew it's an "All Region" DVD, and the SECOND "All Region" DVD that I have ever purchased; the first being the "Region-free" "Return of Godzilla;" the film from 1984/1985. I'm in America, so I worried a little bit about whether or not the money I put into this would be considered "wasted" if the DVDs didn't work. But it does, so I'm happy). But the only thing that bothered me was the appearance of the disc. One side wasn't labeled like 98% of all discs ever released in the DVD market. It was just a white sheet on one side that almost looks similar to its mirror side, which almost confused me. Other than that, the DVD was great.

  3. The Only Way To Watch It 5 Star Review

Good video quality and the audio is the best this movie has ever sounded. Far superior to the mishandled American version. The Japanese version is the only way to watch King Kong vs. Godzilla.

  4. King Kong vs. Godzilla 5 Star Review

Posted by on 14th Jan 2015

Awesome! This is the only way to watch this film, in its original Japanese language version. I never knew there was an unedited version until recently. What a huge difference! Once again, I donated my American edit to Goodwill. I am never watching any English dub versions ever again. Kudos to Sumogorilla for hitting another one out of the park!

  5. Great transfer of a somewhat "lost" entry, at least in the US! 5 Star Review

Posted by on 7th Jan 2015

Sumogorilla does it again with another great transfer of another film that the US seems to have no luck in getting released over here. Yes, the American version was my first ever KK or G film, but the Japanese version is FAR superior! See for yourself!

  6. Very Happy 5 Star Review

First time seeing the Japanese version of the film and I'm really happy with my purchase. Glad I found this site!

  7. Absolutely fantastic! 5 Star Review

Posted by on 18th Aug 2014

Godzilla vs. King Kong as it was meant to be seen! The picture looks great, the disc has trailer and documentary, the sound quality is strong; if this disc had a menu, it'd probably be indistinguishable from a studio release. There really is no excuse for any kaiju fan not to have this one in their collection- and I do mean 'this one,' from Sumogorilla; no bootleg or 3rd-party seller out there is going to give you a disc as crisp as this. Real quality and a GREAT price.

  8. Awesome! Original Version 4 Star Review

Posted by on 15th Aug 2014

I enjoyed this very much! I gave 4 stars for the quality of the video which is very good but not perfect; but that's ok and the widescreen really helps. Definitely worth the price. Thanks!

  9. The Best Way to View This Classic 5 Star Review

Posted by on 26th Jun 2014

King Kong vs. Godzilla was the first Godzilla movie I ever owned, way back on VHS. Unfortunately, the Americanized version is the only one officially released in the U.S., so I was never aware of the differences in the Japanese original (Unless you count the mythical "Duel Ending.) I finally was able to mail order a VHS version of the uncut version quite a few years ago and it blew my mind how much better it was. No stock footage music, no U.N. reporters and paleantologists who know Godzilla's name but otherwise treat the creature as though they've never seen him before, no cutting characters' roles down until they seem like guest stars in their own film, etc. Now I'm glad that I found this DVD version of the original, and I urge anyone to do the same and see this classic the way it was meant to be viewed.

  10. Better than the Blu Ray! 5 Star Review

Posted by on 26th Jun 2014

I also own the Blu Ray version of this movie and found Sumogorilla's item to have a much better picture and sound with a lot less grain. As for the movie itself, what is there to say? One of my personal favorites and one of the most humorous Godzilla movies out there! The Japanese audio track was fine. Although, I'm not a purist and find the English dubbed version adds to the hilarity of it all. It was interesting to see without the ridiculous American scenes added in. My only complaint was ending. I still want to see Godzilla at the end of this as the clear victor of the battle, but it was nice to hear his roar at the end, which is missing in the English dubbed American release version.
