Best Godzilla Movie of the 1970s

Posted by Unknown on 2nd Sep 2014

This one has got it all - Angelus, aliens who are actually ape men in disguise, King Seesar's only appearance (apart from Final Wars), the first appearance of Mechagodzilla and a very pretty female archaeologist/heroine. It is also one of the bloodiest Godzilla movies, and lacks the cartoony quality of some of the other 1970s movies (though it is not as unrelentingly grim as the entries of the 1990s and 1980s either). I won't reveal the plot, it is interesting just to let it unfold before your eyes.

I will say this one is a hidden gem, hidden because it is one of the least seen Godzilla movies and even the American version (released on DVD in 2004) is going for a hefty $80 used, and since it looks like there is no plan for a re-release, the best bet is to buy it here. The VHS is going for much cheaper, but you only get the truncated American version.

As for the picture quality, apart from some occasional pixilation, it is as good as the studio releases, and, if there was a menu and if the discs were labelled, you wouldn't even be able to tell the difference. Godzilla!!!

    Mecha-Godzilla Debuts

Posted by Christopher Humphrey on 15th Aug 2014

Once again, the aliens are at it. Having learned nothing from their predecessors from Planet X, or the roaches that summoned Gigan, or Seatopia, another group of mean, poorly-dressed ETs have a sinister plan to rule Earth--build their own GODZILLA!!!---Yeah, it works out like you'd imagine, but Mecha G gives the King a fight to remember, even with the distraction of the cute-as-a-puppy King Seesar. The DVD is great quality, and easy to follow, the action is slear, and Mecha-G's 1st appearance is a must-have.

Very satisfied with this DVD. The uncut Japanese version is not available in stores in the USA. A must-have for Godzilla fans.

    Best Experiece Ever

Posted by Edi on 20th Mar 2014

Huge Godzilla fan here. I'd never seen this specific movie. I was not aware there was a Mechagodzilla I hadn't seen. I was not aware there was one prior to the Terror of Mechagodzilla. So glad I ordered this. I got to see additional footage to things I'd seen referenced in other reviews but not in any of the movies I recalled watching. I got to see the buggies revealed as aliens died (I'd read about it in a Mechagodzilla review for Terror but even in that movie the bug reveals seemed to be missing when aliens were dispatched. I'd seen reference footage to Angrius attacking Godzilla but never attributed to a specific movie title. Well Angrius is in this one! I had no idea he was seen again in color as a feature..I will say that this movie is prolly one of the bloodiest of all the movies. We see Godzilla spurt out blood and poor Angrius gets his jaw broke :-(. I also had no idea King Sessar was a monster until I saw Final Wars. This is the character that made me want to get this movie. It seemed like it was one I had not seen at all. Get this movie if you think you've seen everything. Cause you haven't til you watch this movie! Beautiful and well transferred movie to DVD. Subtitles for us that don' t know Japanese. They don't take away from the experience at all.
