Super rare Films of Bela Lugosi! A Must have for Lugosi fans!!

Bela Lugosi in the prime of his horror career delivers a sublimely evil performance that carries this effective thriller released by Universal in the wake of their horror success of Frankenstein and Dracula. Based on a tale by Edgar Allen Poe, Murders in the Rue Morgue strikes a similar feel to some of Tod Browning's pictures: dark and rather sadistic. Lugosi's Dr. Mirakle is an evil doctor whose prize sideshow attraction is a killer gorilla whose blood he wants to mix with that of a woman (Sidney Fox) for some bizarre reason. While Lugosi takes the role to its horrifying limits, his co-stars pale by comparison playing rote characters in corny performances. Leon Waycoff (aka Leon Ames) is the hero, a medical student whose girlfriend (Fox) is abducted by the runaway ape in an exciting rooftop climax. The film's stronger elements -- a woman's death in Mirakle's lab, another who is murdered and left stuffed in a chimney -- come across even more powerfully thanks to the fine cinematography of the masterful Karl Freund (Metropolis). In one particularly noteworthy shot, the sound of a woman's screams are intercut with footage of shocked villagers. Director Robert Florey does a solid job of keeping the action moving and the audience on its toes despite a script that does have its occasional lame points. One notable example of this is when Waycoff's friend becomes overly upset that his pal won't eat. John Huston received credit on the film for adding dialogue. Patrick Legare, All Movie Guide

Murders in the Rue Morgue (1932, 61 min)
The diabolic mind of Edgar Allen Poe meets Lugosi as a lunatic scientist scours Paris for a bride for his pet gorilla. Blurring the laws of evolution, he injects his female victims with gorilla blood and discards their ravaged bodies though a trapdoor in his sinister laboratory. When he finally finds the perfect mate, it is a race against time for her fiance to save her. The perfect blend of evolution science and horror drives this thriller.

The Black Cat (1934, 66 min)
Bela Lugosi and Boris Karloff star in this shocking horror classic of Satanism and murder. Honeymooners Joan and Peter Allison are stranded and forced to spend the night at the home of sinister Herr Poelzig (Karloff). They soon learn they are being held captive in the mausoleum and that Poelzig is high priest at Black Mass. He has chosen Joan to be the Devil's bride. David races to save his wife from Poelzig's unspeakable treachery in an unforgettable climax.

The Raven (1935, 62 min)
Inspired by Edgar Allan Poe's short story, this horror masterpiece feature Lugosi as Dr. Vollin, who has a fetish for instruments of torture. After saving the life of a beautiful young girl, the doctor becomes infatuated with her. When he teams with an escaped killer (Boris Karloff) who needs a new identity, the doctor gets more than he bargained for. Revenge, obsession, and manipulation blend together in this wicked Lugosi classic.

The Invisible Ray (1936, 80 min)
In this wicked horror thriller, Dr. Janos Rukh (Boris Karloff) returns from Africa with a deadly discovery. Exposed to an unknown element, he accidentally kills everyone he touches. His friend and colleague, Dr. Benet (Lugosi), develops an antidote that helps but with terrible side effects. As paranoia sets in, the doctor tries to guard his scientific discovery while fighting his uncontrollable urge to kill again. No one is safe from the effects of The Invisible Ray.

Black Friday (1940, 71 min)
A brain specialist (Boris Karloff) attempts to save his dying friend, Professor Kingsley, by transplanting part of the brain from an injured gangster (Lugosi). The side effects prove deadly as Kingsley's dual personalities transform him into a Jekyll-Hyde. When the doctor learns of the gangster's hidden loot, he attempts to manipulate the professor into revealing the location. Lugosi's performance is brilliant in this classic thriller with deadly twists and non-stop action.
